Adoxaceae

Adoxaceae belongs to the order Dipsacales. It is also known as Muskroot family.

The Adoxaceae is a small family of flowering plants primarily distributed across temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It includes shrubs, small trees, and herbaceous perennials that often thrive in forest understories or along woodland edges. Members are commonly characterized by opposite leaves, clusters of small, often fragrant flowers, and berry-like fruits.

Ecologically, these plants support pollinators and birds, while horticulturally, several species are widely cultivated for their ornamental appeal. Some also hold traditional medicinal or culinary value. The most economically significant example from Adoxaceae is the elderberry (Sambucus nigra), cultivated for its edible fruit and use in juices, syrups, and supplements.
