Aizoaceae

Aizoaceae belongs to the order Caryophyllales. It is also known as Fig-marigold family, Ice plant family, or Ficoidaceae.

Aizoaceae is a diverse group of succulent plants primarily found in arid and semi-arid regions. Many species in this family are adapted to harsh environments with minimal water availability. These plants are known for their thick, fleshy leaves that store water and their vibrant, daisy-like flowers.

Most species are native to Southern Africa, but some are also found in Australia and the Central Pacific. Aizoaceae members play important ecological roles in preventing soil erosion and supporting pollinators. Some species are cultivated for ornamental purposes, while others have medicinal and culinary uses.

The best example of a commercial crop from the family Aizoaceae is the Sour fig or Hottentot fig (Carpobrotus edulis).
