Clusiaceae

Clusiaceae belongs to the order Malpighiales. It is also known as Mangosteen Family or Guttiferae.

The Clusiaceae is a tropical family of flowering plants that includes trees, shrubs, and some herbs. These plants are most diverse in tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Many have opposite leaves with clear or colored resin canals, and their flowers are often large, with thick petals and numerous stamens. The fruits are typically fleshy and may contain a sticky, resinous latex.

Several members of the family are important for food, timber, or traditional medicine. One well-known example is Garcinia mangostana, or mangosteen, a slow-growing tree native to Southeast Asia. It produces round, purple fruits with a thick rind and juicy white flesh inside, celebrated for its sweet-tart flavor. Mangosteen is widely sold in tropical markets and valued both for its taste and as a source of antioxidants in herbal remedies.
