Common daisy

Daisies - Photo by Jolly Janner

Common daisies are usually flowers with a yellow center with white petals. They are often seen growing wild in lawns.

But daisies are also cultivated, for example as ground cover in gardens.

Daisy young leaves are edible and can be used raw in salads or cooked. Also flower buds and petals are edible and can be used in salads or soups or as a tea.

Daisies are also used in herbal medicine, for example juice extracted from daisies has been used to treat wounds.

For gardens, many cultivated varieties are now available, which often look very different from the original daisy. They can have flat or round flowers or are double-flowered and they come in many different sizes and colors.
