Alismatales

The Alismatales is an order of flowering plants within the monocot group. This order is particularly notable for comprising many aquatic and wetland plants, including seagrasses. Alismatales species display a wide range of adaptations to their watery habitats, such as submerged, floating, or emergent leaves, and specialized pollination mechanisms often involving water.
While some species are cultivated for food (e.g., taro, water chestnuts) or as ornamentals, their primary importance lies in their ecological roles. They provide critical habitat and food sources for aquatic wildlife, contribute to water quality by absorbing excess nutrients, and help stabilize shorelines.
The best example of a commercial crop from the order Alismatales is Taro (Colocasia esculenta).
