Araceae

Araceae belongs to the order Alismatales. It is also known as Arum family (also known as Aroids).

The Araceae is a family of flowering plants commonly known as the arum or aroid family, consisting mainly of herbaceous species found in tropical and subtropical regions. Members are recognized for their distinctive inflorescence: a fleshy spadix surrounded by a colorful spathe, which often resembles a petal. Many are shade-loving, and some are adapted to aquatic or epiphytic lifestyles. Their large, often ornamental leaves and unusual flowers make them popular in horticulture and botanical collections.

In addition to ornamental use, several species are cultivated for food. A well-known example is taro (Colocasia esculenta), grown for its starchy corms and edible leaves. It is a staple crop in parts of Asia, the Pacific Islands, and Africa, playing an essential role in local agriculture and cuisine.
