Bromeliaceae

Bromeliaceae belongs to the order Poales. It is also known as Bromeliads.

The Bromeliaceae, or bromeliad family, is a diverse group of flowering plants native primarily to the tropical and subtropical Americas, with a few species found in West Africa. Members range from terrestrial to epiphytic (tree-dwelling) forms and are often recognized by their rosettes of stiff, strap-like leaves and striking inflorescences. Many species collect water in central leaf tanks, forming miniature ecosystems that support insects, frogs, and other organisms in rainforests.

Ecologically, bromeliads play critical roles in nutrient cycling and canopy biodiversity. Economically, they include both ornamental plants and edible crops. A prime example is the pineapple (Ananas comosus), cultivated globally for its sweet, juicy fruit and cultural symbolism of hospitality. Other bromeliads are widely grown as houseplants for their bold foliage and long-lasting flowers.
