Proteaceae belongs to the order Proteales. It is also known as Protea family.
The Proteaceae is a family of flowering plants mostly found in the Southern Hemisphere, especially in Australia, South Africa, and parts of South America. These plants range from low shrubs to tall trees and are well adapted to nutrient-poor soils and dry climates. Many have tough, leathery leaves and produce large, showy flower clusters that attract birds and insects. The family is ancient, dating back over 90 million years to the supercontinent Gondwana, and today includes over 1,600 species across about 80 genera.
A commercial crop in this family is the macadamia nut (Macadamia integrifolia), native to eastern Australia. It is cultivated for its rich, buttery seeds, which are eaten raw, roasted, or used in baking and confectionery.
