Solanaceae

Solanaceae belongs to the order Solanales. It is also known as Nightshade family or Potato family.

The Solanaceae is a large and diverse family of flowering plants that includes herbs, shrubs, trees, and vines. These plants are found all over the world but are especially common in Central and South America, where many originated. They grow in a wide range of environments, from tropical rainforests and temperate woodlands to deserts and grasslands. Members of this family often have simple leaves, five-parted flowers, and fruits that are either berries or capsules. Some species are highly toxic, while others are essential food crops.

A well-known example is the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), a soft-fruited plant native to western South America. It is now grown worldwide in temperate and tropical climates for its edible fruit, used fresh or cooked in countless dishes. Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants and are a staple in global cuisine.
