Theaceae

Theaceae belongs to the order Ericales. It is also known as Tea family.

The Theaceae is a family of flowering plants that includes mostly shrubs and small trees, found mainly in East and Southeast Asia, with some species in the Americas and Africa. These plants typically grow in tropical to temperate forests, often in moist, well-drained soils. Most have evergreen leaves, large, showy flowers with many stamens, and produce dry or fleshy fruits. Several species are cultivated for their ornamental value, while others are important for food or traditional uses.

A well-known example is Camellia sinensis, the plant used to produce tea. Native to China and surrounding regions, it is now grown in many subtropical and tropical areas worldwide. The young leaves are harvested and processed into green, black, oolong, or white tea, depending on the method. Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages globally and holds major cultural and economic importance in many countries.
