Liliaceae

Liliaceae belongs to the order Liliales. It is also known as Lily family.

The Liliaceae is a family of herbaceous, mostly bulb-forming perennials native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. These monocotyledonous plants are known for their striking, six-parted flowers composed of petaloid tepals, typically arranged in two whorls. Leaves are usually narrow and parallel-veined, and most species grow from underground storage organs such as bulbs or rhizomes.

Liliaceae members thrive in well-drained soils and seasonal climates, often blooming in spring or early summer. Several of these are cultivated for ornamental purposes. In addition to their aesthetic value, some species have culinary or medicinal applications. A notable commercial crop is the tulip (Tulipa spp.), widely grown for cut flowers and bulb trade, especially in regions like the Netherlands where tulip cultivation is a major industry.
