Pinaceae

Pinaceae belongs to the order Pinales. It is also known as Pine family.

The Pinaceae is a large family of coniferous trees and shrubs found mainly in the Northern Hemisphere, from subarctic forests to tropical mountains. These gymnosperms are typically evergreen, with needle-like leaves and woody cones. Most species are tall trees with straight trunks and whorled branches, and they often dominate boreal and montane forests. Male and female cones are produced on the same plant, with seeds usually dispersed by wind or birds, depending on the species.

Pinaceae includes many ecologically and economically important trees. A notable commercial example is the Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), widely grown for timber, paper pulp, and reforestation. Other well-known members include firs, spruces, larches, and cedars, valued for their wood, resins, and ornamental use in landscaping and holiday traditions.
